HOUSTON, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Houston-based Continental Airlines Inc. pocketed $172 million by selling some 9 million shares in the parent company of Latin America's Copa Airlines.
The U.S. carrier still owns about 12 million common shares in Copa Holdings SA, Continental said Wednesday.
About $50 million of the sale's proceeds are going to Continental's pension fund, bringing the company's current year contributions to its pension plans to $354 million.
Continental expects to end the year with an unrestricted cash and short-term investments balance of between $1.9 and $2 billion.
