SHANGHAI, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- French cognac maker Hennessy has won a trademark infringement case against two Chinese companies it claims are trying to pass off their liquor as French.
A Chinese court ordered Zhuhai Xiangmutong Trading Co. and its bottler, Xiamen Jinhuanya Food Co. to pay damages and print an apology in a local newspaper, the Xinhua news agency reports.

The Chinese version, called Hanlissy, has labeling very similar to Hennessy, claims it is French and sells it in a French store.
Hanlissy was approved as a trademark in 2003. Hennessy is fighting to have that revoked.
