Jaguar denies firm plans to cut output

LONDON, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co.'s Jaguar luxury car unit is downplaying reports it may sell a factory or at least cut production.

The venerable British carmaker said Wednesday that such moves were merely "options," just-auto.com reported.

"Jaguar has a solid production base in the U.K. and is positioning itself to strengthen its business in an industry that grows increasingly competitive," said Jaguar spokesman Ken McConomy.

"We are busy working through our recovery plan at the moment and as you know conditions for our industry are getting even tougher and of course we do have to look at options like this, but that is it at this stage, just an option.

"It is too early to be getting into any specific details of what may be considered," he added.

The Wall Street Journal said Ford was considering a 6 percent to 7 percent production cut for Jaguar, and even mulling a factory closure.
