OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Six Flags Inc. said Tuesday that a hostile takeover of the Oklahoma City-based theme park company had succeeded.
A group, known as Red Zone LLC and led by Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder convinced shareholders to elect three of their group to the seven-member board of directors and also to adopt amendments to the company's by-laws.
Snyder, former ESPN executive Mark Shapiro and home builder Dwight Schar have become directors of Six Flags, replacing chief Executive Kieran E. Burke, Chief Financial Officer James Dannhauser and board member Stanley S. Shuman.
"The results of Red Zone's consent solicitation have been certified by IVS Associates Inc. the independent inspectors of election," Six Flags said in a statement.
IVS certified that more than 57 percent of votes cast were for Red Zone.
"The shareholders have spoken -- and we would like to thank all of them for this vote of confidence," Snyder said, adding that he hoped the board would appoint Shapiro as chief executive and himself as chairman.
Six Flags is the world's largest regional theme park company.
