Denmark rejects airport takeover offer

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Denmark has rejected an Australian bank's offer to buy the Copenhagen airport for $993 million.

Macquarie Airports, which is based in Sydney, is among the world's largest private airport operators, holding investments in Sydney, Brussels, Rome, and in England in Birmingham and Bristol.

Macquarie owns 14.7 percent in Copenhagen's airport, and the Danish government owns 39.2 percent.

Finance Minister Thor Pedersen said the "government plans to use its continued co-ownership to contribute to the Copenhagen airport being operated in a way that benefits the considerable interests that society has in Denmark's most important airport," the Copenhagen Post reported Monday.
