Meningitis suspected in student's death

LIVERPOOL, England, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Students at Britain's Liverpool University were asked Monday to take antibiotics after a 19-year-old died of suspected meningitis.

The victim was found dead in his room Saturday, The Sun reported. Health officials stressed the risk of contracting meningitis by other students was low.

"Meningococcal disease does not spread easily from person to person, and the risk to anyone else in the student population from this case would be very low indeed," said one official.

"Nonetheless, we are treating close personal contacts of the student with antibiotics as a precautionary measure."
