ROME, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Italy is spending $4.66 billion to build a bridge between Sicily and the mainland in what will be the world's longest suspension bridge.
Construction firm Impregilo SpA of Italy, Japan's Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. and several of their partners will construct the nearly 2-mile structure, the Japan Times reported Friday.

Currently, the longest suspension bridge is Japan's 1.14 mile-long Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
