NEW YORK, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Michael Eisner has made an earlier-than-expected departure from the board of Walt Disney Co.

Eisner resigned last week as the entertainment conglomerate's long-time chief executive and had been expected to remain on the company's board through its spring annual meeting, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

But in a regulatory filing made late Thursday, Eisner's departure from the board was revealed.

Neither the company nor Eisner had any immediate comment on his resignation from the board.
