WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. crude oil inventories decreased slightly last week but remained high by historic norms, the U.S. Energy Department reported Wednesday.
The nation's supply of crude fell 300,000 barrels in the week ending Sept. 30.
At 305.4 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories remain above the upper end of the average range for this time of year.
Total motor gasoline inventories dropped by 4.3 million barrels last week, putting them just above the lower end of the average range. Distillate fuel inventories, which include diesel fuel and heating oil, fell by 5.6 million barrels last week, and are just above the middle of the average range for this time of year.
A sharp drop in diesel fuel more than compensated for a slight rise in heating oil.
