TAIPEI, Taiwan, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The United Arab Emirates is offering $5 billion for a 20-percent stake in a big Taiwanese oil company.
The UAE's state-owned International Petroleum Investment Corp. says its offer for one-fifth of Chinese Petroleum Corp. will expire by the end of the month, the Taipei Times reported Wednesday.
The offer for part ownership of CPC, which is 45 percent owned by the Taiwanese government, must be approved by the island nation's Parliament.
Taiwan is seeking buyers for its share of CPC as part of a broader privatization strategy.
