DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The Canadian Auto Workers will use Ford Motor Co. during upcoming labor talks in hopes of reaching a pattern agreement with other carmakers.

The CAW's contract with Ford runs out Sept. 20.

"The best relationship we have in terms of collective bargaining ... has been with Ford," said CAW president Buzz Hargrove said.

"We reached a consensus to go to Ford to establish the 2005 bargaining pattern. We see absolutely no reason why we can't get this thing done early next week."

The 42,000-member union said it plans to use the terms it expects to reach with Ford to become the basis for negotiations with General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG, the Detroit Free Press said Friday.
