No cancer from cell phone use, says study

LONDON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- British researchers at London's Institute of Cancer Research found no correlation between a type of brain cancer and cell telephone use.

The research was based on a study of cell phone use for up to 10 years and its likely link to a cancer called acoustic neuroma.

The study is one of the largest ever done into possible links between cancer and cell phone radiation, the Independent newspaper reported.

Researchers also did not find any link between the brain cancer and the length of time someone used a cellular telephone.

However, the scientists said there was relatively little information on the long-term use of mobiles and they could not rule out the possibility of a cancer risk emerging over time.

The study is published online in the British Journal of Cancer.

Other studies have suggested radiation from mobile phones can cause localized heating in the brain and some epidemiological investigations have pointed to an increased risk of cancer, the newspaper said.
