Korean Air pilots plan to strike

SEOUL, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Korean Air pilots plan a strike to focus attention on what they say are unacceptable work conditions, Korea Times reported Thursday.

The strike, set for Friday, follows a work slowdown that began July 4 to protest many of the same concerns that drove Asiana Airlines pilots to go on a monthlong strike that ended earlier this month after the government ordered them back to work.

Korean Air, the nation's largest airline, said none of its scheduled flights will be disrupted because it will hire replacement pilots.

The pilots want more rest time, a delay in retirement age and less rigorous medical exams.
