BEIJING, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- European aerospace giant Airbus has decided to outsource parts of its aircraft business to China in a bid to hike sales to that country.
Specifically, Airbus said it planned to buy $60 million worth of components from Chinese companies in 2007 and $120 million by 2010, Xinhua said Thursday.
"Because we have only $15 million in sourcing in China, we would like to increase this number," Airbus spokesman Gu Wei said, adding that proposals being considered included establishing more joint ventures in China.
By increasing the outsourcing of parts, especially for the A380 super-jumbo, the European group hopes to better integrate the mainland market into its supply chain and also increase sales.
