Japan's jobless rate falls again

TOKYO, July 29 (UPI) -- Japan's jobless rate fell last month to its lowest level since mid-1988, the Financial Times reported Friday.

Unemployment in June declined by a sharper-than-expected 0.2 points to 4.2 percent as the number of jobless fell to 290,000 from the year-earlier level.

It was the 25th straight monthly decline in the widely watched figure.

The better-than-expected jobless figures were supported by other data showing firm production and reasonable, if slightly disappointing, household spending in Japan.
