CHICAGO, July 20 (UPI) -- Boeing Co. said Wednesday two European carriers signed contracts for jets worth $1.42 billion, at list prices.
Central European low-cost carrier SkyEurope Airlines finalized a previously
announced order for four Boeing 737-700s worth $220 million. The order includes purchase rights for up to 16 additional airplanes.
Headquartered in Bratislava, Slovakia, and founded in 2001, SkyEurope now
serves 25 destinations in 14 countries from its bases in Vienna-Bratislava,
Budapest, Krakow and Warsaw. It currently operates a fleet of 15 aircraft,
including 11 Boeing 737
Spanish airline Air Europa has finalized an agreement to buy 18 Boeing 737-800s. That contract is worth about $1.2 billion.
Air Europa, headquartered in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, will use the
additional 737s for renewal and growth of its short-to-medium-range fleet. The
carrier currently operates 27 737-800s, two 737-400s and five 767-300s.
