Korean Air top freight carrier in world

SEOUL, July 5 (UPI) -- The International Air Transport Association has named Korean Air's cargo operation the world's largest commercial airline freight service.

The honor is a first for the South Korean company, it said Tuesday.

During 2004 Korean Air recorded 8.164 billion freight-ton-kilometers, ahead of Lufthansa Cargo, which had topped the list since 1986..

Korean Air has been ranked among the top three freight carriers since 1993, and has consistently placed among the top five commercial airline cargo carriers since 1991.

Korean Air's cargo operation flies to 39 destinations in 25 countries using 113 aircraft.
