DFW Airport opens largest people-mover

DFW AIRPORT, Texas, May 21 (UPI) -- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport began Saturday operating Skylink, the world's largest airport people mover.

The opening marked the end of five years of construction on the system, which transports passengers in train cars traveling at speeds up to 35 miles per hour on 4.81 miles of guideways, elevated an average of 50 feet, the airport said in a statement. Skylink will initially be able to shuttle 5,000 passengers per hour per direction, the airport said, and the number will increase to 8,000 once the system is expanded to capacity.

"This is a day our passengers have been waiting for a long, long time and now we have a new world-class people mover to get around our world-class airport," said airport CEO Jeff Fegan. "And later this summer, Skylink will begin serving our new International Terminal D. All of these additions to DFW are making our region an even greater magnet for international tourism and business."
