GM sues Chinese automaker for copying

SEOUL, May 9 (UPI) -- A South Korean unit of the General Motors Corp is suing a Chinese automobile company for copying one of its automobile designs, the BBC reported.

GM Daweoo, the South Korean unit of GM, said Monday it has filed a lawsuit in the Beijing Number One Intermediate People's Court against China's SAIC Chery Automobile Co. for copying the body structure of its Daweoo Matiz in SAIC's Chery QQ model. The company is seeking $9.7 million (80 million Yuan) in compensation.

Daweoo said tests show the body structure, as well as the interior and exterior design of the QQ, are similar to the design of the Matiz, adding many parts are interchangeable between the two cars.
