China, Thailand boost corruption crackdown

MANILA, Philippines, April 19 (UPI) -- China and Thailand on Tuesday joined the anti-corruption group of the Asian Development Bank and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The Manila-based ADB and the OECD of Paris welcomed China and Thailand as the 24th and 25th member of the anti-corruption initiative.

Launched in 1999, the group focuses on promoting anti-corruption policies both at the national and regional levels.

The two countries' decision to join "is important proof of China's and Thailand's highest political commitment to fight corruption and a major step forward for the (Asia) region's efforts in this regard," said Jak Jabes, the ADB's director for governance and regional cooperation division.
