BRUSSELS, April 14 (UPI) -- A key European Union regulator has gone public with her irritation over what she sees as disrespect by software giant Microsoft Corp.

The EU's competition commissioner last month gave Microsoft until Monday to respond to a request for information on how it would comply with a ruling in an antitrust case.

But two days after the deadline, Neelie Kroes had yet to hear from the Redmond, Wash., company, the New York Times said Thursday.

Specifically, Kroes has been wrestling with Microsoft over the appointment of trustees knowledgeable about the software industry to monitor the company's compliance with last year's EU antitrust ruling. Kroes wrote to Microsoft urging it to agree to her plans for policing the orders contained in last year's antitrust ruling.

"The deadline was April 11 and they have not respected it," a spokesman for Kroes said Wednesday.

A Microsoft spokesman said the company's response was "imminent."
