New robot keeps an eye on owner's house

TOKYO, April 13 (UPI) -- A Japanese firm has unveiled a new robot equipped with a camera that can let owners observe their homes while away, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Wednesday.

ZMP company officials claimed Tuesday in Tokyo that their Nuvo is the first human-shaped robot for home use on the global market.

The Nuvo, 15.3 inches tall and weighing 5.5 pounds, has joints in its arms and legs so that it can walk and spin. It can also get up it if falls over.

The camera, located in the left eye, is remotely controlled by a mobile phone.

Clothes, shoes and even wigs are available with the Nuvo.

"Before 2011, I want to make a robot that becomes a necessity around the house after we make improvements," said ZMP's president.

The company is also trying to develop software to make the robot speak.
