Companies can do more to be green

SEOUL, March 28 (UPI) -- The Asian Development Bank said Monday private companies must be more responsible for the environment.

"We believe that mounting pressure on the corporate world to exercise greater responsibility for environmental performance can serve as a positive force in the Asia and Pacific region," said Bindu Lohani, director-general of the ADB's sustainable development group.

Lohani is currently in Seoul to take part in a regional ministerial conference on the environment as the Asia-Pacific region faces the challenge of keeping up growth on the one hand while introducing incentives for companies to keep pollution under control.
