Stocks post 3rd straight week of gains

NEW YORK, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. stocks closed higher Friday with blue chippers posting a third straight week of gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average, which fell nearly 40 points in early trading, rose 46.40 points, or 0.43 percent, to 10,796.01, its second 2005 high in a row.

Nasdaq closed up 23.56, or 1.15 percent, to 2,076.66 and the Standard & Poor's was up 8.29, or 0.69 percent, at 1,205.30.

Bonds declined. The 10-year Treasury note fell 6/32, or $1.86 for each $1,000 invested, pushing the yield up to 4.100 percent.

The dollar was mixed. It traded at 105.69 yen, up from 105.84 yen, while the euro slipped against the dollar to $1.2868 from $1.2871.

Winners outpaced decliners by more than 2-1 on the Big Board.
