Billowing skirts, dresses top new fashions

NEW YORK, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Increasingly voluminous skirts and dresses have made an impressive debut as part of New York's Fashion Week.

Zac Posen, the young designer, showed some of the most outrageously over-sized outfits of the week. But, he also previewed an equal number of billowing skirts and dresses that, like a short, strapless baby-pouf gown, were eminently wearable, the New York Post said Friday.

Vera Wang unveiled a line that also managed to make sense of the tricky new silhouette, with lean, form-fitting high-waisted tops balancing the proportion of her full skirts, worn slung low on the hip.

Gilles Mendel, the hot shot designer behind the J. Mendel collection, had a scene-stealer in a strapless lilac gown, cinched with diamonds under the breasts, that fluttered to the knee where it was cinched again, with a ribbon, before reaching the floor.

Another hit was a silver column gown that burst into a waterfall of feather-light organza petals.
