Shoveling snow proves deadly in Japan

TOKYO, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Heavy snowstorms striking Japan have led to 10 deaths this winter and accumulation up to 13 feet in some areas, the government reported Thursday.

For the past week, the Niigata area of northern Japan has been hard hit by the worst snowstorms in 19 years.

The 10 reported dead all slipped while trying to shovel snow from their rooftops, the government said.
