HP consolidates its consumer businesses

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Hewlett-Packard Corp. of California is merging its personal computer and printer divisions into a single $47 billion business unit.

Besides printers and PCs, the new Imaging and Personal Systems Group will include digital cameras, the iPod music players HP makes in conjunction with Apple Corp., and other handheld products, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

The company will then have three main divisions, including Technology Solutions Group and Financial Services.

When Carly Fiorina became the company's chief executive in 1999 the company had 83 divisions.
