WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Cutting healthcare costs and ending lawsuit abuse are key to U.S. business growth, the National Association of Manufacturers said Wednesday.
Outlining the trade group's agenda for 2005, NAM also said that manufacturers should strive to reduce production costs within the United States, and it called upon the administration to level the international playing field so that U.S. companies could compete head-on with overseas rivals.
"Fierce global competition is here to stay, and America's businesses and workers have no choice but to meet that competition head on," said NAM President John Engler.
He also emphasized the need for better-educated workers, especially in technology in addition to encouraging more research and development.
