BRASILIA, Brazil, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Brazilian officials say they don't see the need to draw funds from the International Monetary Fund though they aren't ruling out the possibility.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told reporters that the country was in a "comfortable position" regarding the economy in 2004, but he can't say they won't use IMF funds. Brazil's Central Bank President Henrique Meirelles said earlier this week that Brazil hasn't decided whether it would renew its $14 billion loan agreement with the IMF despite weekend reports saying it would.
The agreement with the IMF expires in March.
Brazil's economy is expected to post 4.5 percent growth for 2004 after a dismal 2003 in which it shrunk by 0.2 percent.
