NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- New York's Tommy Hilfiger clothing maker has bought the trademarks of Paris' trendy Karl Lagerfeld, the Times of London reported Tuesday.

The deal gives Hilfiger the Lagerfeld Gallery line as well as other Lagerfeld collections and keeps Lagerfeld at the creative helm. It will not affect his work as creative director of Chanel or Fendi.

"Karl is a true inspiration," Hilfiger said Monday. "He has continuously set the benchmark for style, creativity and sophistication."

Lagerfeld also seemed pleased with the deal.

"I have been impressed with Tommy and his team and I look forward to working together," said the German-born but French-raised Lagerfeld.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.
