Halloween decoration spending up

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- If it seems more and more ghosts and goblins appear on streets each Halloween, a study finds American homes will spend $1 billion on Halloween decorations.

"Halloween has become the second most popular decorating holiday -- although it used to be primarily a children's holiday, today adults make merry on Halloween along with their kids," Pam Danziger, president of Unity Marketing and author of "Why People Buy Things They Don't Need," said in a statement.

A study by Unity marketing found that U.S. residents would spend about $1 billion to decorate the inside and outside of their homes.

"In addition to pumpkins and cornstalks on the front porch, there will be Halloween lights around the eaves of their home and lighted, even moving, wire sculptures in the yard," said Danziger.

"The dark and spooky side of Halloween will be the preferred decorations theme outside, while inside the focus is on tabletop centerpieces and decorative bowls for candy, candles and Halloween-themed candle accessories."
