Google founders tout new projects in Japan

TOKYO, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The founders of Google Inc., Sergey Brin and Larry Page, flew to Tokyo this week to set up a research and development center and other projects in Japan.

The pair did not say when the center would begin operation, but they did say that a Japanese version of Google's desktop search tool, released internationally last week, was being hurriedly developed, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Tuesday.

Google is also looking to develop new services for the mobile Internet. The two expressed confidence that their Japanese research and development team would develop new products not only for Japan, but also for the scores of countries covered by Google's growing international empire.

The multinational now employs around 10,000 translators of 100 different languages.
