Official: China trade to reach $1 trillion

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai predicted Sunday that China's imports and exports will reach $1 trillion in 2004.

The minister spoke Sunday at the World Industrial and Commercial Organizations Summit, reported Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency. The summit's focus was to promoting cooperation in international industrial and commercial circles.

China's total import and export volume reached $850 billion in 2003, the 4th largest worldwide. From January to July this year, the total amount of imports and exports of China reached $623.1 billion dollars, a growth of 38 percent over last year.

"With the current development trend, it is estimated that the imports and exports of this year will be over [$1 trillion]," Bo said.
