FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Spirit Airlines in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Thursday gave 2,400 of its employees a bonus of $55 each for their performance in July.

Spirit Airlines, which is the largest privately-held airline in the country, had the best on-time performance and the lowest ratio of mishandled baggage compared to the 12 largest U.S. airlines in July.

"Based on our outstanding results in July, we're delighted to give each employee up to the director level -- a total of 2,400 employees -- a bonus of $55," said Jacob Schorr, chief executive officer and president of Spirit Airlines.

Spirit's on-time performance, consumer complaint ranking, mishandled baggage and percent of flights canceled are measured against the Air Travel Consumer Report, a monthly report from the Department of Transportation's Office of Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings.
