Northrop Grumman wins contract

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation Tuesday awarded Northrop Grumman in Hendon, Va., a contract to provide protection of physical assets.

Northrop Grumman's Information Technology sector will share in task orders valued up to $120 million over five years.

The task orders are administered by the Transportation Department's John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, part of the Research and Special Programs Administration, under the Transportation Security Solutions contract.

The Volpe Center provides research, analysis and system deployment services to the Transportation Dept., and other federal, state and local agencies.

Under the scope of the contract, Northrop Grumman will compete to protect several modes of transportation, logistics processes, and governmental functions, facilities and operations, from sabotage and terrorist attacks.

Northrop Grumman will also provide services including vulnerability assessments and security planning, security-system design and installation, and support for contingency and emergency response and recovery.

Work on the contract will be conducted at various federal government transportation security locations in Washington, and Cambridge, Mass.

Northrop Grumman Information Technology is an engineering and service contractor.
