Leap emerges from bankruptcy protection

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- San Diego wireless company Leap Wireless International has emerged from bankruptcy protection by reducing its long-term debt by over $2 billion.

The company in October said the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California confirmed a reorganization plan that would leave it with more than $100 million in cash and allow it to reduce long-term debt by more than 80 percent to roughly $426 million.

Leap said Tuesday it expects to apply for a new listing on Nasdaq, after satisfying listing criteria.

Leap filed for Chapter 11 protection on April 13, 2003.
