LONDON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- British Airways workers are expected to go on strike next week, the Financial Times reported Friday.
The London daily said that 53 percent of union members who handle ground operations for the carrier voted to support the strike over wages. The GMB union has more than 3,000 members who work for British Airways, and a strike would disrupt the carrier's flights from Gatwick and Heathrow.

But the company is hoping to stave off the strike through further negotiations, the Financial Times said. Amicus, a union representing engineers, has entered arbitration talks. Amicus is the smallest of the three unions currently in discussions with British Airways.
