Jumpking recalls 1.2 million dumbbells

MESQUITE, Texas, July 20 (UPI) -- Jumpking Inc. of Mesquite, Texas, Tuesday recalled 1.2 million Reebok and NordicTrack chrome dumbbells because they do not fit together properly.

Jumpking said the weights can fall off the handles and strike the user. Jumpking said it has received nine reports of weights falling from handles, including five injuries such as bruising, a broken nose, and a fractured toe.

The chrome dumbbells weigh between 2 and 50 pounds and have the Reebok or NordicTrack trademark on the outside of the bells, along with the weight.

The dumbbells, which were manufactured in China, were sold at Gart Sports, Sears, Target and other retail stores who carry sporting good products nationwide from June 2000 through May 14, 2004, for between $4 and $45.

Jumpking said consumers should examine their dumbbells to make sure the weights on both ends are tightly secured to the handle. If they are loose, contact Jumpking at 800-322-2211 to obtain instructions on how to receive a free repair kit.
