SEATTLE, June 30 (UPI) -- Starbucks Coffee of Seattle gave away samples Wednesday of a new line of "Frappuccino Light" blended coffees at its North American stores.

The give-aways are an attempt to tap into the growing desire of U.S. residents to lose weight, a Starbucks spokesman said.

"With 42 percent of Americans reducing the fat in their diet and 33 percent saying products low in calories strongly influence purchasing decisions, Frappuccino Light blended coffee is a perfect addition to the range of menu options Starbucks offers to fit varied lifestyles," said Jim Donald, Starbucks president, North America.

The new line of drinks come in coffee, mocha and caramel flavors.

Frappuccino Light blended coffee has 30 percent to 40 percent fewer calories than the original frappuccino blended coffee beverage, said Donald.
