DETROIT, May 15 (UPI) -- The United Auto Workers union has postponed a threatened strike at the Visteon plant in Rawsonville, Mich., for one week.

The union cited improvements in its contract talks with Visteon for its decision. Union officials representing Local 898 now have set a strike deadline of May 21 at 11:59 p.m., the Detroit Free Press said.

A union hot-line reported "some positive movement" toward resolution of local issues.

The union is at odds with Visteon because the supplier wants to reduce its workforce by 30 percent to 40 percent of its 2,074 hourly workers. a UAW spokesman said.
