SHANGHAI, April 12 (UPI) -- Telecom equipment manufacturer Ericsson Inc., said Monday it would continue to invest heavily in China despite the death of its Chinese president.
Jan Malm, Ericsson China's president since 2000, died of a heart attack in Beijing at age 54 Thursday night, the Shanghai Daily News reported.
"Our strategy in China won't change and we will continue investing in China, especially in research and development sectors," Ericsson in a statement.
Jorn Husemoen, Ericsson China's current vice president and chief finance officer, will temporarily assume Malm's post. The company has yet to appoint a new head for its Chinese operation, reported Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency.
During his tenure, Malm strengthened Ericsson's business in China to make it the Swedish giant's second largest market worldwide, trailing the United States.
