Wall Street ends down slightly

NEW YORK, March 23 (UPI) -- U.S. stocks struggled Tuesday, with narrow session gains wiped out over concerns over terrorism as the closing bell on Wall Street approached.

The Dow Jones industrials average ended down 1.11, or 0.01 percent, at 10,063.64 in light trading of 1.4 billion shares. The Nasdaq composite index was down 8.10, or 0.42 percent, at 1,901.80, and the Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 1.50, or 0.14 percent, at 1,093.90.

There were positive earnings news, such as a better than expected earnings report from Goldman Sachs, but the market was weighed by terrorist concerns, CNN reported.

The 10-year Treasury note was up less than 1/8 point, or $1.25 for each $1,000 invested, for a 3.72 percent yield.

The dollar was mixed. It fell to 106.770 yen, down from 106.79, while the euro fell against the dollar to $1.2329 from $1.2333.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 stock average ended off 37.42, or 0.3 percent, at 11,281.09. In London, the FTSE 100 share index fell 15.30, or 0.35 percent, at 4,318.50.
