NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- Vivendi Universal has gone to court in Delaware against Barry Diller, a major shareholder in the French-based company's entertainment holdings.
Vivendi has a deal to sell these assets to NBC, and while Diller can't block the transaction, he could complicate matters, The Wall Street Journal said.
Diller holds Class A preferred shares in Vivendi through Usani Sub LLC, a unit of his InterActiveCorp.
"This is a technical dispute between VU and IAC, and NBC is not a party," an NBC representative told the Journal. "As we have stated on several occasions, we do not need IAC's consent to close the transaction." NBC, a unit of General Electric, expects to finalize the matter this spring.
Last October, Vivendi agreed to sell the Universal movie studio and cable networks SciFi and USA to GE for some $14 billion in equity.
In its lawsuit Tuesday in Delaware Chancery Court, Vivendi accuses Diller of stalling the matter. Diller declined to comment to the Journal.
