North, South Korea begin job park plans

SEOUL, March 5 (UPI) -- Five South Korean companies will begin operations later this year on an industrial park in Kaesong, North Korea, the BBC reports.

The park, located just over the North Korean border, is the result of a 2000 bilateral economic summit and months of negotiations.

The South Korean companies will occupy a 33,000 square meter (355,200 square feet) site initially. When completed the park will occupy a site about 100 times bigger. However, construction is halted for now due to concerns over North Korea's nuclear program.
