FRANKFURT, Germany, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Siemens and Rodenstock announced Friday they will move as many as 2,400 jobs out of Germany.

The same report said optical manufacturer Rodenstock plans to cut between 350 and 800 jobs in the lower Bavarian city of Regen.

Rodenstock plans to move its lens-finishing and logistics operations to Klattau, Czech Republic, and to move its parts manufacturing to Bangkok, Thailand. Development and testing will stay in Regen.

A Siemens representative told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung the company's German circuit-board manufacturing could not compete with similar operations in Asia and said Siemens might move the operation to the company's plant in China.

The Siemens factory near Karlruhe will remain responsible for planning, organizing and optimizing the fabrication of new products.

Semi-conductor manufacturer Infineon on the other hand announced plans Friday to expand its memory-chip development center in Dresden. Infineon plans to invest 120 million euros and hire about 120 new workers in Dresden over the next two years.
