Janet Jackson angers bustier maker

NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The New York maker of the bustier Janet Jackson wore at the Super Bowl halftime show are mad, saying the ripping revelation implied the costume was poorly made.

"There's no way it would have ripped that way," said Sam Hill, the female manager of DeMask, a Manhattan shop that also sells whips, masks, studded collars, harnesses and rubber sex aids, the New York Post reported Friday.

"We're known for putting together solid, long-lasting pieces. People use our stuff for mind-altering, body-altering experiences. It has to be good quality."

Hill said Jackson needs to confess she altered the bodice, saving the store's reputation.

Stylists from Juggernaut Productions came to DeMask two weeks ago, shopping for items for Jackson, Hill said.

In addition to the $250 rubber and feather bustier, the shoppers purchased leather skirts, corsets, hoods and jackets, Hill said, adding she suspected the singer was up to something.

"They said they were going alter some things. They took off the studs that kept the cup in place and replaced them with snaps so it could just come off," Hill said.

With another public appearance expected at Sunday's Grammy Awards, a spokesperson has said Jackson will not attend.
