Exxon Mobil plans Texas LNG terminal

IRVING, Texas, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- An Exxon Mobil Corp. affiliate Thursday announced plans to develop a $600 million terminal in Texas to process liquefied natural gas for U.S. distribution.

Vista del Sol LNG Terminal LP will operate the receiving terminal on the Texas Gulf coast near Corpus Christi. The facility should be operational about 2008 with a processing capacity of 1 billon cubic feet per day.

The Vista del Sol terminal will process imported LNG for distribution throughout the United States, employing about 600 workers, officials said.

Philip Dingle, president of ExxonMobil Gas and Power Marketing, said the plant is another step in the company's plan to develop LNG receiving terminals on the U.S. gulf coast.

"There is strong growth in natural gas demand projected in the future, and the import of LNG will be an important component of the supply mix," he said.

In October, Exxon Mobil and Qatar Petroleum announced an agreement to supply 15.6 million tons a year of LNG from Oatar to the United States for up to 25 years.
