MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Palm Inc. of Milpitas, Calif., is changing its name to palmOne after it spins off its PalmSource operating system division this fall.
Eweek.com said palmOne Inc. will be in charge of the company's hardware business, including the Zire, which is focused on consumers, and Tungsten, focused on corporate users.
Also staying with palmOne will be Treo -- the smartphone business the company will own after completing the acquisition of Handspring Inc. later this year.
"Palm created an entirely new category when it delivered the first successful handheld computers in history," said Todd Bradley, chief executive officer of Palm's Solutions Group. "palmOne builds on the brand promise and popularity of the Palm name, while indicating our intention to continue to be the driving force of innovation."
Products bearing the new palmOne logo will appear next year.
