Coke and Pepsi accused of contamination

DELHI, India, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Coke and Pepsi are contesting a finding by the Center for Science and Environment in India, finding their products to be highly contaminated.

Center officials said three bottles each of 12 soft drink brands from Delhi contained a "deadly pesticide cocktail" that exceeded European norms by around 11 to 70 times.

The Center told the Times of India purity laws do not exist in India, or are too weakly enforced to be of any use.

Coke and Pepsi Tuesday challenged the center's testing methods, seeking an independent inquiry into the matter. Both claim their products are safe to drink.

Both Coke and Pepsi said they operate within European and American norms and have top-grade testing producing top-grade products.
