TOKYO, July 10 (UPI) -- About 18,000 Vaio laptops are being recalled by the electronics giant Sony Corp. because of an electric shock risk.
The BBC said the problem is with faulty modems, which means users might suffer a shock when making a telephone call and using the Vaio at the same time.
Most of the laptops are the FR or FRV series and are in use in Japan, with about 3,000 in the United States and 2,000 in Europe.
Sony is the world's sixth-largest seller of personal computers, selling more than 3 million Vaio laptops worldwide during just the past year.
A Sony spokesperson said the company has received fewer than 10 complaints and no reports of injuries from the faulty modems. The laptops will be repaired free of charge by Sony.
